Remember back in high school when you had to read a passage and then answer the question, “What is the Main Idea of this passage?”
Understanding the “Main Idea” is a big part of reading comprehension.
Sure, you may be able to read the words, but if you are unable to comprehend what those words are trying to say, you really can’t read.
The “main idea” is the central point or purpose. It is the entire reason for the passage.
It is the context.
Words without context are meaningless.
After the Republican landslide win on November 4, I have come to the conclusion that the GOP Leadership never learned how to grasp the Main Idea.
They are politically illiterate.
While Americans went to the polls in droves to drive out Democrat Senators and solidify the Republican majority in the House, there was one central point or purpose.
This is the Main Idea of the 2014 Midterm elections.
Less than 48 hours after the landslide win, the Republican Leadership in Congress took to the microphones and declared that surely the Main Idea was Work with Obama, and Show Americans We Can Govern.
Are they serious?
Sadly, yes. They are.
They are politically illiterate.
The Republicans in the House plan on pushing ahead with an Omnibus spending bill that will finance the Federal Government for a year. This Omnibus bill will include discretionary spending that will enable Barack Hussein Obama to pursue his “executive Amnesty.” Not to mention, it will continue to fund Obamacare.
In other words, it will clear the decks for Obama’s radical agenda — the very agenda the American people went to the polls to demand Republicans stop.
What’s worse, Republicans plan on voting on this bill before the new Senate and House are sworn in. They plan on working with Harry Reid — the man Americans effectively fired as Senate Majority Leader — to cram this omnibus bill through.
So, you go to the polls and demand that Obama be stopped, and the Republicans in Congress plod along as they always do — as indifferent to the will of the people as Obama is.
I think it’s fair to say the stupid people Jonathan Gruber was referring to also include the morons in the GOP Leadership.
Could you imagine if the Mitch McConnell and John Boehner had been in charge of D-Day?
After Allied troops stormed the beaches in Normandy, secured the beachhead and beat back the Germans, they would have declared that now was the time to negotiate with Hitler and see if he’d be happy with the gains he already made if only he agrees to leave France.
It’s as if the Republican Leadership really does believe the Main Idea of their entire existence is “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.”
I seriously do not understand why these imbeciles are incapable of comprehending the single mandate from the American voters.
While the White House brags about how much they are looking forward to shoving Amnesty down our throats, the Republican Leadership wags their finger and threatens a lawsuit against Obama, while at the same time they are clearing the way for him to do his Amnesty by surrendering the power of the purse.
These guys are hapless.
And meanwhile, all the Republicans we just went to the polls to send to Washington are being left out of the equation — not by Obama, not by Harry Reid, but by John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.
Consent of the Governed.
The main idea of our Constitution is “We the People.”
And these nitwits in the Republican Leadership don’t seem to get that either.
I’ve been noodling on an idea for the last week now and I’m beginning to think we have to saddle up and pursue it.
When the Democrat-controlled Congress planned on voting Obamacare into law despite the strong opposition of the American People, we descended on Washington.
I think it might be time for us to descend on Washington again.
This time to clearly and forcefully explain to the Republican Leadership the Main Idea of the Midterm Landslide.
Hell. I’m game.
One thing in our favor is the Republican Leadership are so completely cowardly, if we showed up in droves and personally tutored them in Midterm Comprehension in the most vocal way possible, they’d listen. A show of strength always results in Boehner and McConnell pissing themselves.
You can always count on Establishment Republicans to kowtow to a show of force.
That’s why they cow to Obama. They really do believe that he is still the most powerful force in Washington.
If they were to discover that We the People are far more powerful, they’d buckle.
Flood their offices with phone calls. Demand that they get the message to Stop Obama!
Here. I’ll save you some time and give you the phone numbers:
Office of the Speaker: (202) 225-0600
Office of Mitch McConnell: (202) 224-2541
We the People understand the Main Idea of this Midterm Victory.
It is time we provide the necessary education to our politically illiterate leadership and explain it to them in a clear and decisive voice.
